A Tux, Go-Karting, and a Samurai Sword

Little things that are fueling my week

I didn’t plan what to write today.

But here we are — just a few musings to clear my mind.

I’ve been living alone for a while now. My family is in China.

The solitude gets heavy sometimes, but I jump at any chance to connect when I can.

Tonight, one of the teams at work organised a Go-Karting outing. I’m all in.

Introverted doesn’t mean reclusive. That connection with others? It’s fuel for the soul — something I’m truly looking forward to this week.

Another highlight coming up is Ryan Holiday’s talk in Dublin on Friday. I managed to get VIP tickets, so I’ll have the chance to meet this modern-day master of Stoicism.

With December creeping in, the office Christmas party is around the corner. I ordered a tux for it and booked a weekend getaway with my parents to West Cork.

Castletown Bere in West Cork has a pub there that shares my name, McCarthy’s. It holds a Japanese Samurai sword gifted to Dr. Aidan McCarthy, a WWII POW who survived the Nagasaki Atomic bombing.

His story’s told in A Doctor’s Sword, yet few know of him.
